learning to speak mamanese

mamanese is a word i first heard used by a friend. i was updating her on all of the new words that my oldest (and only then) child was saying. like all children he had his own way of saying things that at the time, only i understood since we spent what seemed like 24 hours a day together. in response to her hearing his translation of train (ni-ni car) or of hot wheels (wow cars) she just chuckled and said, 'you're learning mamanese!'

from that day on, for whatever reason, every new little trick that helps me figure out motherhood a bit more, reminds me of the word mamanese and the definition of the word grows deeper for me.

every new mother (or father) knows that once that blessed day comes her/his life will never be the same. we're not exactly sure what that means but we know this to be true. from deciphering each child's distinct 'toddler' dialect to exploring allergies or discipline methods to tweaking an already stretched pastor's budget for a growing family, we are daily widening our scope, praying for wisdom and learning a new language for life.

for me, this blog is simply my journey to become fluent in mamanese. in doing so, i hope to create the best life for my husband & myself and most importantly, my littles that call me mama.
